Jeopardy Mania (not really)
Before an exciting game of Jeopardy the third year English teacher put on some tunes for the students. Before class begins she always sings along with the song for that month. I have this logged in the Bosom Buddies thread. Well, turns out the kids aren’t too keen on Billy Joel or John Lennon so they finally got to put a request in. This month she’s singing Eyes on Me from the Final Fantasy VIII soundtrack. At first I thought the kids really wanted to hear the song but after hearing the teacher sing it I realized they pulled one over her head. They obviously chose a song about 3 octaves out of her range. I would’ve laughed except I thought she was so brave to be singing in front of all these kids.
I imagine that she hopes that all her students will sing along with her in some English song orgy. Three classes go by and most kids have their heads stuck in comics. By the time the fourth class started I lost amusement and so, I sat down during the song. I noticed one kid in the back actually singing along. Only one kid out of 150 students that day decided to sing along. I remembered this kid from before because he wrote an appendix on the back of his “About Me” sheet of all the video games he liked. So, this would all seem a bit normal: Nerd (otaku) decides to sing with teacher to a Final Fantasy song in class. Except you have to rewind to the week before.
I’m at my desk browsing youtube when this kid storms in screaming his head off. He sounded like a drunken Donald Duck but without the quack to the voice. His face was bright red and I could’ve sworn he was possessed. Five teachers worked on him until they finally settled him down. I was staring over trying to figure out what had happened when it appeared that the teachers were taking him apart like a broken toaster. They formed an assembly line and were passing back screwdrivers, pens, toothpicks… What did this kid have on him? After they cleared him out he started going for the teacher’s coffee mugs filled with pens. When they didn’t allow this he began kicking the desks. I’d never been so thrilled and concerned at the same time before. They finally got him to calm down and I thought that was the end of it. Well, the next day, the same exact thing happens all over again. I started to regret teasing him before for wearing a bike helmet to school. Would I be part of the blame if this kid committed suicide?
Well here we are singing:
Darling, so there you are
With that look on your face
As if you’re never hurt
As if you’re never down
Shall I be the one for you
Who pinches you softly but sure
If frown is shown then
I will know that you are no dreamer
It was magical. This kid rocks.
By the way, more ATM madness. ATMs in Japan are only open during banking hours which means that I had to pay a fee to DEPOSIT money on a Sunday. Truly, truly, they are mad.
