    Randums

    April 25th, 2007

I was shat on after swearing to myself because some kids said, “Good morning Scott Sensei” at night. Maybe the birds had a point.

A few days ago the principal printed a sign, “For Better Human Life.” I didn’t bother asking. But I just returned from the toilet to tell you that the sign is now placed above the urinals. Apparently, there’s been some JO problems in the boys bathroom. The sign reminds us that god intended our troops to find the egg of life, not to be splattered against porcelain in a preemptive attack.

    Tim’s Dedication

    April 25th, 2007

    Sir Tim Writes:

“Scotty, I was just listening to Millincolin, they’re not bad yo, I like the Kingwood Album, anyway….. what are you up to? like me, you’re probably getting nervous about the JET prom, soo many things to think about like; who you’re gonna take, what you’re gonna wear… then there’s the nitty gritty, like reservations and getting a limo…. it’s almost too much to deal with, but it is “the Prom” it only happens once in a lifetime. Im sooo busy at work these days, Im designing a power point presentation for my san nensei students and doing lesson plans fro my ichi nensei, Its hard to fit it all in to an 8 hour day, so ive been staying at work til about 8 o’clock, but its sooo fun coz all the teachers stay and we all laugh and joke together, and we always have hot green tea to drink, its a great time. I really cherish these days. I feel so lucky to be a part of such a warm and inviting community here. Well, I know you’re busy, like me, Im sure you are swamped with requests to plan this, or design that, but if you can squeeze it in, send me email! Ive got a class to teach in 5 minutes so I gotta run! See you at the AJET karaoke party this Friday afternoon! GOOOOO JETS! “

    The Office Budweiser

    April 11th, 2007

The office enkai is some sort of drinking and eating party designed to get everyone acquainted with each other. There are four new teachers in the first grade, and since I’ve, for some reason, been placed with the first grade teachers, they asked me to join them. I actually like the new teachers, maybe it’s because they actually try talking to me. It was also pleasant to hear the new English teacher explain to me that we had just three more days left till the weekend. I found her eagerness to finish the week to be quite warming to my soul.

There’s a new history teacher who really gets a kick out of talking to me. We chatted it up a bit about beers until it started to get strange. He asked me if Budweiser had a nickname… “Bud?” That wasn’t it. He backed his seat up and started pointing to his crotch and waving his hand over the region as if to say, “I’m this big and I come in three different colors and styles!” I was floored, he saw my confusion then explained it a little bit clearer. He was under the impression that in America we call our Johnson rods, ‘Budweisers’. Anyways, this just tipped me off that he must be gay.

    Hotel Karaoke

    April 9th, 2007

Pressing my luck further, I decided not to show up to work on Friday. I didn’t bother calling anyone, I just slept in. I figured, if they did call I would just say I had a belly ache. Nobody asked me any questions today about it so that means I scored another paid holiday!!

Theresa and I went out on Saturday night to meet some people that I had met at the NOFX show. It took us a few hours but we finally found them, exactly where they didn’t say they’d be. Shou is in a pop punk band outfit and was playing an acoustic set outside a camera store. I had correctly guessed that he’d ask me to play a song. I obliged, the evidence is on google video somewhere. His set went late which meant Theresa and I missed the last train. Instead of complaining, we went out for ramen and drinks. We called it a night around 3am and headed for our safe haven, Cybac Internet Cafe.

    Sakura Season

    April 5th, 2007

After a nice two week vacation, admiring the sakura (cherry blossom) trees, I’ve returned to school to find a lot of changes. There are five new teachers and the cool teacher who likes to sing the national anthem to me is now the vice-principal. Sadly, I’ve lost the nice older English teacher who loved butchering English songs in front of class. Her wit and smile will be missed. I now have a new buddy who sits next to me. He’s the new math teacher and apparently loves practicing his English on me.

Best of all, there must have been so many changes happening that nobody paid any attention to my whereabouts. I scored an extra week of paid holiday! If they were to ask where I was, I planned on using the old sick routine, but thank heavens I don’t have to lie!
Well, guess it’s about time to watch Prison Break, hope my new buddy doesn’t get offended that I’d like to learn if Schofield and Burroughs get away rather than talking to him about the sakura season.
