Round 1
After an odd experience of dancing with Dragon Ball Z characters and J-pop girls (whose brains resemble fuzzy pink Weeples), Theresa and I headed off to find a place to spend the night. We tried to comprehend the scene we just left and agreed we had just been flung out from an anime cartoon. We learned from past experience that we won’t get a space at the internet cafe if it’s past 2am. So at 5am we headed to Round 1. It’s a mega amusement center, roughly 8 stories of video games, comics, internets, batting cages, table tennis, massage chairs, snack bars, darts, badminton, etc… Every major city like Fukuoka, Kobe, Osaka and Tokyo has one of these.
Maybe I”ll let Theresa try to explain the events before Round 1. So, Round 1 is pretty awesome. For about 15 bucks you get an all access pass from 11pm to 10am. Originally we thought we’d be able to get some sleep there. We tried out the massage chairs but since the remote was in Japanese, we didn’t really have a prayer in getting it to work right. Although, I did hit a button that gave me a great foot and leg massage. It was too noisy to sleep so we played some table tennis. We got a private room that gave us about 2 feet of space all away around the table. The lack of space didn’t really matter since we played like zombies anyhow.
I wanted to come earlier, before heading to the club, but time didn’t allow this. I wanted to come so I could hit some balls in the cages. So, at 5 am I took some swings. Unfortunately, only the left handed cage was available. But that didn’t stop me! I roped a few good balls, I also flung the bat and narrowly missed my head as the bat bounced off the netting and headed for my head. It was pretty fun to hit some balls around but people started getting in line behind me, so we took off just before 6. We didn’t have time to play any arcade games but the place is rad enough that I think we’ll try to do it again. Except, next time we’ll plan for it just a bit better.
