All Your Bass Are Belong To Me

Besides catching up on a decades worth of TV shows that I’ve failed to ever watch, to kill some time I like to jam on the guitar. I’ve never formally introduced her so, here goes. I bought James for a few hundred bucks when I first arrived in Japan. I don’t know who James is, but he makes good guitars. Playing in between episodes of The Daily Show and Colbert Report can get quite boring so I’ve decided to get a band together. My friend Shou is an amazing guitar player, who makes my guitar skills look like a five year old playing a squeaky recorder. That said, I have demoted myself to bassist. The only joy in this is getting to buy myself a new bass. My previous basses have been beginner basses, except one that was a step up from beginner. So, this time around I decided to go all out and get me a manly yet beautiful bass.

After some window shopping and online research I found a bass that was actually on sale for a good price. Once I got the Precision bass home I wasn’t very happy. The poor guy just didn’t feel right. But, it helped me realize which bass I actually wanted. I recalled seeing a Precision at a different shop that wasn’t on sale. The music store where I bought the first bass didn’t have this model Precision. So, I had Shou call the music store and ask if they could special order it for me. Shou texted me later with the great news. They could get the bass for me, and at a discount!

I present to you, James’ cousin PB70-93US.

Unfortunately the bass didn’t come with a name, guess James lucked out. For any possible bass dorks out there, this bass is a Fender Precision 1970’s reissue Crafted In Japan natural 2 piece bass, ash body, maple neck, vintage bridge and U.S.A vintage pickups.

Last Sunday I went to the Studio with Shou, and drummer Shintarou. We had a pretty fun Jam session together. The bass was magical; deep, rich, smooth, but still kept a clean bright tone. Ahhhhh..

Here’s a picture of James and another of the bass I had for just a few days:
